Wooden pallets and crates are the primary packing ways for products to be shipped internationally. For years destructive insects and organisms have been shipped from one country to the next when exporting crates and packing materials.

ISPM 15 is an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that directly addresses the need to treat wood materials of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship products between countries. Its main purpose is to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems.

We offer a variety of crate styles designed to match the unique characteristics of each item we package, including size, weight, fragility, and orientation. Once your items are crated we offer special crate shipping as part of our logistics services.

Custom designed wooden crates, boxes and skids for almost any purpose or need are available from Craters & Freighters of Southwest Florida. Our crating engineer uses CAD programs when a customer's engineering department must approve critical tolerances in the wooden box design. Wood containers are the most cost effective, environmentally safe and recyclable exterior package. All of our wood crates are designed to be reusable. Moreover, all crates adhere to ISPM-15 ("bug stamp"), making them fully compliant with the requirements of participating countries.

Trade Show Crates

Open Slat Crates:

Open or Slat Crates are designed in such a way as to protect the contents of the crate from other items falling onto the crated item while in transit.

The crate is designed with a pallet or heavy skid type bottom to support the weight and size by using upright and diagonal cleats with nominal wood components to structure the walls and top of the crate.

The Slat crates are a great option when full crating is cost prohibitive. The Slat Crate is not only cost effective on the crate itself but it also saves on shipping costs since it uses wood it weight is less than conventional wooden crates. Slat Crates will lower your overall packing and shipping costs!

Corrugated Crates & Containers

Corrugated fiberboard, or combined board, has two main components; the linerboard and the medium bonded together by adhesives. Both are made from a heavy paper called containerboard. Linerboard is the flat facing that adheres to the medium. The medium is a wavy paper called a flute that is found between the linerboards. Corrugated is a durable, versatile and lightweight material used for custom-manufactured shipping containers. We use as a minimum 350 lb double wall corrugated fiberboard which is made up of three sheets of linerboard with two mediums or flutes in between when building custom corrugated boxes.

Specialty Wooden Saddle Crating

Craters & Freighters has the expertise and know how to construct special supports for unique items such as airplane wings, large metal pipes or just special equipment crating needs. The saddles are designed and cut with room for special PE foam to cushion the object being held and yet kept it in position during domestic or international shipping. As an example, packaging medical equipment and machinery requires special crate designing with bracing and vibration reducing decking.

Small Moves and College Moves

This type of shipping offers our clients the most economical method of shipping we have available. We will pick up your belongings that you have boxed, take all your belongings to our crating center and palletize the boxes, shrink wrap all the boxes and band them down to a pallet for shipping to your new destination.
